DEXTER

Our clients approached us to assist them with their desire to create a garage and adjacent store area in association with a new improved entrance & driveway to the front of their property, as well as a garden room to provide entertaining space to a lovely sunny spot of their large garden.

An adjacent plot re-development initially provided the reason to get started with their ideas to create a new secure entranceway, and provide some strategically positioned built form as a means of partially providing privacy and visual improvements from the new overlooking neighbours.

Having looked at various moodboards & design options during the feasibility design stage the winning garden room design proposal is based on a traditional rustic appearance utilising a combination of external oak timber and reclaimed brickwork. The garden room is located next to a beautiful mature willow tree, and includes an uncovered patio 'sun terrace' as part of a raised platform design to reduce impacts on the nearby tree roots. The open garden room incorporates sufficient space for a dining table overlooking the garden and a cosy seating corner by the fire for extending those evening gatherings. The garden room provides an attractive focal point to increase the sense of privacy to our clients space, as well as reorientating their focus back into their glorious garden.

The final garage design proposes a detached double bay garage with adjacent store to be constructed out of reclaimed brickwork including corbel detailing to create a design that is in-keeping with its immediate surrounding context. The front driveway is to be replaced and new railings and entrance gates are also included. The design is nestled into its leafy surroundings and we've worked alongside a local Arboriculturalist to ensure the garage is designed appropriately given it's proximity to nearby TPOs (Tree Preservation Orders) and their associated tree root protection areas. We also completed the technical design package that includes specialist screw pile foundations to minimise disruption to significant nearby tree roots, retaining wall details with tanking solution where the structure is tucked into an existing grass mound on site, suspended concrete beam and block floor construction, exposed attic trusses, large up and over garage doors and a soakaway drainage system.

Overall the proposed works are successful in achieving the clients original goals, providing a welcoming entrance back home, increased privacy and security for peace of mind, and reducing the negative impact of the proposed neighbouring development by refocusing on the positive aspects of the site.
